Dreams and Floods
Many of you have probably heard about the southern Alberta floods of 2013.
Because the downtown core is off limits, I have had a couple days off from my full time job to get ahead with Colossal Chameleon work. I have finished a new line of bows, and a costume photo shoot (stay tuned for my next post) and I have another shoot scheduled for this afternoon. I have had so much fun the last couple days and I can't help but dream of a day when this could be a full time gig for me.

First Festival Lessons

Congratulations to Ashley for winning the spa basket draw at the festival! I will be e-mailing you to set up a time/place for delivery.
So a couple posts ago I mentioned that I would be attending my very first festival. I was very excited, but I definitely learned a couple things...
First and foremost, I learned that indoor and outdoor shows are very different. If I had thought about this fact for even 5 minutes beforehand it could have gone very differently. I have had this picture in my head of what I want my table to look like for a very long time, so I went for that picture even though many aspects of my table didn't cooperate with the outdoor conditions. For instance, it rained. Of course it rained! I had many little freebies that liked to blow away whenever they pleased, and the cheap plastic table cloth was much more of a hindrance than an aesthetic pleasure like I had planned.
I went to the festival with very limited stock, and I wanted people to know that I have the ability to make more than what I had displayed. This was an easy fix, I made a slide show that would run during the festival so that potential customers walking past could see my photography, costume designs, etc. It would have been awesome indoors, but there was no way my little Macbook was going to be seen with a sun in the sky so compete with. Even at it's very brightest setting.
I had a lot of fun! And I met some really cool people, including the really nice ladies selling jewelry next to me who shared their tent and a hoodie for the half hour of rain. So overall it was a great experience, but I know what I would change for next time.

Business Cards!
I have finally gotten organized enough and set aside enough time to design and print business cards!
I had already decided on colors earlier this week. I wanted to have three colors that fit my personality and the personality of my company, were versatile enough that I could use them for branding on a very wide variety of product, and that went well together. I finally decided on a cool brown, pastel/minty green, and fuchsia.
I worked with one of my favorite designers for a few hours yesterday, and we came up with a perfect format and got them all printed. I love my cards and how they really display my business accurately using colors that just clicked perfectly in to place, and I was able to display TWO pieces of my work. It feel good that now whenever my interests, business, or schooling come up in conversation, I have a quick card to give people so they can find me on the internet later.

First Festival EVER
So I have some very exciting news to share!
Yesterday I got word of a festival that not only is going to be the coolest thing for me to be in at this point, but it is not too late to enter in! It is VERY short notice so I am going to be going crazy this week trying to get everything ready.
This experience has really pushed me and is teaching me a lot of things. Mainly that if I am going to get serious about this then I NEED to get serious now. For example I have been kind of a little bit thinking about business cards lately, and now due to the short notice of this festival I need to get them printed immediately. Figuring out what everything is going to look like has been fun and a struggle, but I think it will turn out great for the 15th.

Poison Ivy Costume Design
In 2012, one of my friends from high school invited me to her themed birthday party. Everyone had to dress up as either a superhero or a super villain, and I chose Poison Ivy. Today I am going to share it with you.
The best part of this costume is what is actually cost me to make!
-2 x $5 T-shirts
-3 for $15 Knee Socks and Tights
-I can't remember how much the plant was that I took the leaves off of, but likely about $5 at Value Village
I am still very very beginner at sewing, and this project was so super simple! If you have any questions about how I made this outfit, or have ideas for your own costume and want some input as to how to put it together, please comment and I will put together a post just for you.
Hair and Makeup is all thanks to my wonderful sister and one of the creators involved in THICKcreations, Arie Miette (Check them out on Facebook). Photography is thanks to my wonderful and very cooperative boyfriend.

Great Falls Montana 2013
I recently went on a trip to Great Falls, Montana with my family, and I want to share my experience with you.
Going from Canada to the U.S., I wondered if I would actually notice much of a difference between the cultures. Especially because I was just barely going over the boarder... Here are a couple of the things that I noticed.
Bad Coffee....
Now I am not much into coffee so I didn't think that I would even be able to taste the difference. However my mom needs her coffee in the morning and we actually struggled quite a bit to find a coffee shop we could rely on. It took us until the last day or two of our trip to find a Starbucks, which particularly surprised me because from my house I am walking distance from at least 5 of them. One place in particular:
The coffee we got was bad enough that even I threw it out before I had gotten an inch from the top.This could easily be a Great Falls thing and not a U.S. thing. In fact I am kind of counting on it.
Casinos
What I noticed on every street corner instead of a Starbucks, was a casino! I had never seen so many in such close proximity. In fact look back to that picture of the bad coffee place and there is one right beside it.
Aside from coffee and casinos, I can't really explain how it felt but it was different. Like a different vibe, a slightly different mindset that you just can't really put your finger on. We went to Great Falls for the shopping, which we realized when we got there that we had made a mistake. All in all the trip was not really worth it, especially because the drive there ended up being 3 hours longer than we had anticipated!

Now I don't get the opportunity to travel very often, so I could be totally off base here.I want to know what you think about what I think. Is there somewhere you think I would like better? Do you disagree with me? What differences have you found between the neighbors?
